Get To Know Dr. Margaret Hamilton
How long have you been an oral surgeon?
I graduated from University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 2010. At that time I started my training to become an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon at Vanderbilt. I graduated my training program in 2014. So, I have been out for 4 years! Time flies!
What inspired you to become an oral surgeon?
The summer before I went to dental school I worked as an assistant for an oral surgeon in Franklin, TN. I felt absolutely excited to wake up in the mornings to go to work. I found the surgeries so interesting and loved interacting with the patients. I would say my time spent in his office that summer inspired me to pursue a career in oral surgery.
What do you enjoy most about being an oral surgeon?
I love the people I meet, my patients are wonderful. It’s fun to meet people from all over the greater Nashville area, and know that they trust you to take good care of them.
What do you enjoy most about being part of OMSNashville’s team?
My favorite part of our practice is how it feels like family. Our staff is the best around and I truly care about each and every one of them.
I also love being able to talk to the other doctors about particularly difficult cases, and bounce treatment options off of each other. Being able to learn from some of the best in the business is invaluable.
What is your top piece of advice for patients?
Don’t feel bad for being nervous about being in our office. We see so many patients that have had a long standing fear of the dentist. We completely understand that fear, and want to do everything to make you as comfortable as reasonably, and safely possible.
What is one fact that most people don’t know about you?
I wanted to be an astronaut when I was in high school!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Going to concerts, Preds games, traveling, spending time with my husband, Jeremy, and son, Noah.
What organizations, non-profits or community groups are you involved with?
If you were not an oral surgeon, what other profession would you have chosen?
I really loved anesthesia when I was in residency, so maybe an anesthesiologist. I also really loved organic chemistry in college….. so maybe a high school chemistry teacher! Although, I don’t think I have the gift that most teachers have!
