Neuromodulator Injections

Botox, Jeuveau, Xeomin, and Dysport are muscle weakeners that are derived from bacteria that have been purified for use in humans to help restore facial skin vitality. This FDA-approved treatment can be utilized to eliminate frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles with minimal downtime. Injections work beneath the surface, blocking nerve transmission, to temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles.

The effects of neuromodulators such as Botox and Jeuveau are not permanent, with results lasting up to 4 months, and may require being repeated 2-3 times per year to maintain their effects. Research has suggested that long-term use of Botox or Jeuveau injections can lead to a longer duration of their effects. When receiving Botox or Jeuveau injections, patients report feeling a slight pinch and will notice a visible smoothing of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines within 3 to 5 days.

Who is a Candidate for BOTOX or JEUVEAU?

Everyone ages differently and the lines formed are unique to each face. The severity of lines and wrinkles is influenced by a combination of factors; from facial activity and animation to cellular changes that occur over time, to a reduction of collagen, genetic factors, as well as damage caused by the sun and environment. Both Botox & Jeuveau are great treatment options for individuals who wish to soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles or as a preventative treatment to keep a youthful appearance before showing signs of aging.

What to Expect

Your OMS Nashville surgeon will customize treatment to meet each individual patients’ goals and needs and will discuss appropriate treatment for any areas of concern. Injections are targeted to the muscles of the upper 1/3 of the face, including eyebrows, forehead, and eyes. The suggested treatment for the upper 1/3 of the face is 50 Units but can require more for specific, targeted treatment needs. Patients will be asked by their OMS Nashville provider to make a series of facial expressions such as squinting, frowning, and smiling, to determine the best placement for injections. After receiving treatment, you may return to your daily routine immediately after leaving our office.

After Treatment

We recommend patients remain upright for 4 hours after injection to minimize touching your face which may accidentally spread the treatment to other areas. You should avoid strenuous exercise or workouts for 24 hours. Injection sites may appear red or swollen for a few hours. The most common side effect of neuromodulator injections is mild bruising which can be covered with make-up if necessary. Additionally, a mild headache is possible, which can be relieved by taking Tylenol.
