
Dr. John Shea received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and obtained his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Southern Illinois School of Dental Medicine. In 1987 he joined the United States Navy where he served for 15 years. After completing his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Illinois, Dr. Shea became the OMS Department Head at the U.S. Naval Dental Center in Okinawa, Japan and later became the Associate Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. In September 2001, he was aboard the USNS Comfort and served in Operation Noble Eagle in Manhattan, New York following the attack on the World Trade Center.
Dr. Shea moved to Middle Tennessee in 2002 with his wife, Jennifer, and two children, Katie, and Jack, and joined OMSNashville. He is a member of his church’s Dental Mission Team and has traveled to Haiti for the past 15 years providing dental care to those in need.
