Meet Dr. John Shea

Dr. John Shea received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and obtained his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Southern Illinois School of Dental Medicine.

He went on to serve in the United States Navy for the next 15 years where he received expert training in the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After completing his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Great Lakes Naval Hospital, he became the OMS Department Head at the U.S. Naval Dental Center in Okinawa, Japan and later became the Associate Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. In September 2001, he was aboard the USNS Comfort and served in Operation Noble Eagle in Manhattan, New York following the attack on the World Trade Center.

After moving to Middle Tennessee, Dr. Shea joined OMSNashville in 2002 and became a partner in 2004. He serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and volunteers regularly with the Interfaith Dental Clinic. Dr. Shea is Board Certified and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Shea is an active member of his church’s Dental Mission Team and has traveled to Haiti for the past 15 years providing dental care to those in need. In his spare time, Dr. Shea and his wife Jennifer live in Hendersonville, TN, and enjoy traveling and spending quality time with their daughter, Katie, and their son Jack and his wife Ashley.
